At long last – the first game of the season at Boreham Wood’s excellent ground. On a nice sunny day, mainly btfc fans (approx 100) & very few stortford, saw Btfc off to a shaky start going a goal down after 5 mins – a soft one, from a corner which should’ve been cleared. We seemed to miss Barry’s tenacity & Moore’s steadying influence at the back. However as the game went on btfc gradually gained confidence and started to play some good football to the point that we should’ve gone in at half time ‘evens’.
Second half and a great start with Payne equalising on 46 putting us deservedly on equal terms. Parratt (mom) dominated the midfield proving his worth as one of our best signings. St Hilaire made an excellent run beating three players before running out of room to shoot. He was then subbed for Hooker who really didn’t display the form shown in the friendlies.
A very disappointing performance from ‘Old-stager’ Battram meant being subbed on 75 to one Leon Gutzmore to the inevitable btfc applause. As the game went on we were the more assertive side and a good chance was squandered by Hooker blasting over the bar from the left, Instead of electing the better option of passing into the centre.
Overall, a fair result, with us unlucky not to make it three points, especially agaInst one of the weaker Premiere sides. Now I’m off to v98 at Chelmsford – not a bad weekend ! Let’s hope for better things with the return of Chris Moore for our first home encounter on Tuesday.
