Billericay Football Club
Through the kidness of the Editor, I am able to give a few details of the Club’s progress during the past and present seasons.
It have been felt for some time past that Billericay should have a team worthy of such a growing town, and last season the Club was re-organised, and many suggestions were made and carried into effect, and other improvements on the ground will be made as soon as the financial resources of the Club allow. The result has been one of success from all points of view.
As most of the readers know, last season was the most successful the Club has had for some years, when they won the Chelmsford league cup and finished second in the league itself. The secret of the success was two-fold. Firstly, the spirit of unity that existed at the weekly committee meetings, and secondly, the splendid team spirit that prevailed amongst the players, a combination, that must, of necessity, bring ultimate success.
This season has every promise of being a good one again, as up till last Saturday the first team have not been beaten, and in the League alone have secured ten points out of a possible 12, notwithstanding the fact that they have had to re-arrange the team owing to injuries. The first team have entered for the Essex Junior Cup and the Chelmsford League cup, whilst the reserves have won the first round of the Brentwood Cup.
Both teams are engaged in the Cup to-day, the first team at the re-play of the Shenfield Rovers match, which was left drawn after extra time last Saturday, and will be played at Shenfield, whilst the reserves will have Great Burstead as their opponents in the Brentwood Cup on the Club’s ground, and the committee would be greatly pleased to see both teams well supported.
This season we have made a charge for admission, and the play has been more than value for the amount charged, and considerably augmented the Club’s funds. Nevertheless, our Treasurer, Mr. E. Speed, will be glad to welcome any new Vice-President.
Mr. Hubert Bill, the President, takes a keen interest in the Club by his presence at the matches, both home and away, whilst the Secretary, Mr. W. Deal, is a member of both the Chelmsford and Brentwood League Councils. Both Mr. Turner and Mr. Shipman Senior, are great acquisitions to the committee on account of their long experience of the game and their first-aid work on the field.
May I make a special appeal to all lovers of the soccer game to rally to the Club’s support and thus help to encourage the players to give of their best. Reports of the matches will appear in “The Billericay Times” each week.
F.P.Brinkworth, Chairman.
