A few ‘ups & downs’ – following a crash to earth with the emphatic defeat (1-2 flattered us) by Sutton (did they look good !?) on saturday following Town’s superb display against Chesham, this particular match can be best described as a ‘Business-like’ win.
Town appeared somewhat shaken by the football lesson learned from Sutton and made life difficult against an ordinary (in spite of big-spending) Purfleet. In spite of the welcome return of Chris Moore in defence, Town really fell into playing the long, high ball game, not helped by the swirling wind.
Adekola opened the scoring after nine minutes with a fairly soft shot from the right of the box which somehow managed to creep thru the crowded box to beat the presumably unsighted keeper.
Chris Payne looked frankly jaded throughout – I’d prefer the livelier Hooker (not even sub !)
The second half started with the once stylish Paul Allen being booked on 46. Unfortunately the game never really improved with the exception of some typically good wing play we’re coming to expect from St. Hilaire.
After a lot of ‘huffing & puffing’ from both sides the game was put to bed by Leon Gutzmore on 80, heading a fine cross from St. Hilaire on the right. Rather than giving Purfleet a ‘damn good thrashing’, Town chose only to convert the few shots in an overall poor game – still, three points and a nice ground.
